Dwight was introducing a food line entitled “Bakersfield Biscuits” and needed a website to coincide with the release. When collaborating on design concepts Dwight said “Think Route 66.” With that in mind we set about creating a work of digital Americana. We created a series of roadside vignettes with games, an old-time newsreel and fun downloads all while making the user experience new, refreshing, yet simple to navigate. When we presented to Dwight he was quoted as saying that Zooropa was able to “actualize what I was visualizing in my head, taking a Route 66 aesthetic and extending it out into cyberworld.” The site was so innovative that it was awarded some of the most prestigious accolades in the online world.
Our creative relationship with Mr. Yoakam blossomed from that moment forth. The next venture was to be “The Official Dwight Yoakam Website,” an online home for the versatile entertainer. It needed to be an area that focused on all aspects of Dwight’s career including his music and acting, a haven for fans to interact with the popular artist. We set out to capture the embodiment of Dwight’s essence. With Zooropa’s unique “first-person” interactive environment we formulated a site that was based on a small town. We made it fun to explore, yet informative. The content is right at your fingertips if you need it in a hurry, but if you slow down and take your time there are many more gems to be found. A complete interactive jukebox, a movie drive-in theatre and a full message board for “Dwight Discussions.” to name but a few.
Since then we have worked together on many different endeavors including:
Graphic designs, enhanced audio CD’s, movie websites and video productions. Part of the Zooropa mantra is to work with a client beyond the norm, to get to know the client and how they think and work. To be competitive in the tech industry and stand out above the rest we believe that working relationships are key. Instead of simple “clock in – clock out” transactions, we feel that we must go above and beyond to cultivate the client’s image and enhance their marketing investment. This is something that we have done with Dwight Yoakam and all of our clients. This is just one of the many benefits that your organization will receive in a partnership with Zooropa.
When respected country artist Dwight Yoakam asked Zooropa to generate a cover for his new album, we were happy to oblige.
With only the title “Dwight’s Used Records.” We immediately conceived the idea of a simple, old, traditional record store from a western town. Dwight loved it. and with that we got to work building the vision. By stitching together different images and using meticulous editing we created the illusion of an actual existing record store that is tucked away in a once bustling neighborhood. The result of inventing store names and street corners fooled all of the fans who not only loved the artwork, but went looking for the non-existent street. Zooropa didn’t stop at producing the cover, but the entire package inside and out. We are a “one-stop” shop when it comes to producing multimedia. And by utilizing Zooropa you are eliminating the hassle of dealing with several “specialty” organizations.
When Dwight Yoakam released his studio album Population: Me containing a brilliant selection of new material. Koch Records approached Zooropa to create an Enhanced CD version of the album. When you insert the recording in your computer you have access to an interactive multimedia presentation. Koch wanted to showcase a music video for the number one hit The Back Of Your Hand, a colorful, beautifully directed film that exemplified Dwights artistic creativity. We set to work using the latest technology in multimedia design to create an exciting application. Using existing video footage and original materials we concocted a user experience that was both simple to use and visually stunning. We used “b-roll” footage from a video shoot to make a unique opening to the application, a series of motion vignettes. The heart of the application was the music video, to augment this we created a special, interactive player. It took the form of an antique tv set complete with oversized, functioning buttons that begged to be pushed.
It was built for both the Mac and PC user therefore not alienating any part of the audience yet making each install a breeze and transparent to the end-user.
The Internet is the ideal place for Dwight Yoakam. It allows this red-hot country singer and actor to strengthen his support among his growing number of fans. Through Zooropa’s unique “first-person” design, fans can get all of the latest news on Dwight and his concert schedule. Fans can chat with Dwight and each other in the chat rooms, hear his music via ZooSound, and can even watch his videos and film clips on ZooVision. Dwight’s site was awarded Macromedia “Site of the Day”; Country Weekly magazine’s “Site of the Week” and was used as a Macromedia case study for Website design. The site also won a New York Festivals “New Media Award.”
Panic Room Promotion
How do you create a unique marketing position for a biscuit? This project is a case in point for use of highly effective graphics, copy and design. The story of “biscuit boy,” combined with the down-home, country-flavored feel of the site, create a unique and appropriate brand position for Dwight Yoakam’s Bakersfield Biscuits. The site has a functional side, too. Visitors can purchase biscuits online, or they can choose a store where this unique product is sold. This site was the first of Zooropa Design’s to win the prestigious Macromedia “Site of the Day” award.
Games and Videos
Tri Mark Films was looking to create an outstanding Web site for the Movie South of Heaven, West of Hell. They had seen Zooropa’s work and knew that they were the answer! The film stars Dwight Yoakam, Billy Bob Thornton, Bridget Fonda, Peter Fonda, Vince Vaughn, and Paul Rubens. The Web site needed to be as unique and intriguing as the film itself. The filmmaker responded, “it’s beautiful, you nailed it!”
To commemorate country musician Dwight Yoakam’s achievement of receiving a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame we put together this memento to congratulate him. The media package consisted of a custom made leather album embossed with Dwight’s star and the date of the ceremony. Once you open the cover you are presented with a selection of mounted photographs from the occasion together with a custom DVD of the event and a CDROM containing additional images. Zooropa designed all aspects of the album; from the interior lining to the custom DVD menus. this truly made for a memorable gift that was presented to those in attendance.
