ABOUT THE POSTER

In 2015, GingerMan Raceway’s owner, Daniel Schnitta approached us looking for a unique way to celebrate their upcoming 20th anniversary. Our team designed a large collection of assets for the season-long celebration. We produced billboards, clothing, banners, brochures, calendars and even a new logo, but we were most excited about the poster. We’ve long considered Automotive Racing Posters to be one of the most culturally significant forms of our trade, as evidenced by the numerous vintage examples hanging in our offices and our catalog of previous work.

We started with a low resolution photo from a 1997 race. To overcome the poor quality source, we manipulated the photo and created an Impressionistic version with LeRoy Neiman qualities. We used this artwork for a large print-run 27” x 39” poster.

We then used the same layout as the basis for an over-sized 36” x 56” hand screen-printed version of the poster for special friends of the track. Freed from the limits of standard four color printing and influenced by mid-century Harley Davidson posters, we were able to mix custom fluorescent inks and add a touch of Pop Art influence. We re-worked the photo into a half-tone pattern of dots reminiscent of many Andy Warhol works. This second version is a limited print run signed by Dan Schnitta.
